Well, I'm with you, boss. The Claude outage this morning was a reminder that we're a long way from sufficient reliability to achieve ubiquity. For me, the autonomous agent bar requires complete operational independence. I don't want something like a Waymo or Tesla car that literally stops working because it can't phone home. I get that the "ai bros" haven't figured out how to monetize me running models on my own compute, and that's the real barrier to discovering the marginal utility of frontier models. Like the dotcom era tech, we're only going to figure out where the real value for consumers lies after this hype cycle crashes. Apple seems to have foreseen this and was putting ML cores on chip before "ai" took off and seems to have been holding cash to await the inevitable to buy what they want again (as they did in the last big hype cycle). I'mma go check the Claude status page again. 🙄
